Chain Waxing followup

Dear Lennard,
I have been hot-waxing my chains with food-grade paraffin, with great results. Your latest post mentions slack wax. I was wondering about using cakes of slack wax for immersion waxing. Would it be superior to paraffin, in terms of how many miles you get between rewaxes ? Would it pick up more dirt because of the high oil content ? What percentage oil content would be best for chain waxing … or should I just stick with paraffin ? And where can you get the stuff in retail quantities, or is it only available in bulk ?
Geoffrey
Dear Geoffrey,
Slack wax is what paraffin wax is made from, by de-oiling it. Its oil content is the 10%-30% range.
